Awesome. @MotherNY says Hello to Hell’s Kitchen.

Awesome, Mother New York has just moved to NYC’s Hell’s Kitchen Neighborhood. And this is how they introduced themselves. With a couple of weird new business ideas which are all entitled Mother. How about a Seal-Burger?

Absolut. NY-Z.

There are only few brands in this world to consistently communicate and cooperate on such a high level as Absolut. Actually stuck in a low interest market with a completely generic product But it manages to bring the Arrr back into Marketing. Its success formula is simple: Intertwine local places and artists and stage the brand as enabler in the background. For its current sponsorship of Absolut’s Concert Series (in tandem with TBWA\Chiat\Day), the brand is cooperating with the notorious Jay-Z.

This week ABSOLUT Concert launched “NY-Z”, a 17-minute online film and lovechild of director Danny Clinch. Through a partnership with Madison Square Garden and Jay-Z, the brand follows the hiphop star in the days leading up to his 9/11 benefit concert. He reflects on his life in a candid, Sinatra-esque way that kind of reminds us of “Fade to Black,” the documentary film Jay-Z did in 2004 during his “The Black Album” tour. (via Culture-Buzz)

The mentioned video is the highlight feature of Absolut’s Facebook page. And yes, it is exclusive, cool and stages the brand more than well. Plus I really like the video personally since I had the pleasure to see Jay-Z at Madison Square Garden NYC last week as surprise guest for Alicia Key’s concert. A convincing presentation and well tuned interaction of story and platforms. Cool, Absolut NY-Z.

Storytelling. A Day in New York and an Insight about Marketing.

If you are a regular reader of my blog or if you follow me on twitter you might know that I spend this week in New York City. I am not working or attending a conference. I am just here on vacations, meeting friends and having a good time. While I spent the day exploring Manhattan (once again) I was run over by the same impressions that most foreigners are faced with when they return to the Big Apple for the first time in a while – it’s an inspirational overkill.

Of course, you cannot compare NYC to, let’s say, my hometown Frankfurt. But on the other hand – why not? Let’s just focus on something you can compare, even though both cities vary in size, culture and history drastically. Let’s just compare products and how they are presented. And when I thought about how NYC markets its goods I instantly found out what’s missing in Germany – heart and soul in selling products. That’s the result of 5 hours of just walking south from Greenwich to Chinatown.

Kiosk – 95 Spring Street, Soho

Kiosk is a highly unusual but very, very cool mixture of a folk museum and a cross-cultural retail-venture of everyday-items. Encounter helpful stuff in use in Portugese kitchens, Chinese kindergardens or German Scout Camps. Every item is presented with a short heritage about its sense, function and why it’s so special.

Nike. NY Stands for New York.

As a citizen of Frankfurt, Germany, I don’t feel too sorry for the inhabitants of NYC (because actually it’s the coolest city on the planet). But it’s interesting to see how this hurt metropolis always reinvents itself to focus on the stuff that makes this city so unique. Wieden + Kennedy has created this great out door ad for the NY Yankees. Nothing else to add than ‘Great’. (Via AdFreak)
