As a citizen of Frankfurt, Germany, I don’t feel too sorry for the inhabitants of NYC (because actually it’s the coolest city on the planet). But it’s interesting to see how this hurt metropolis always reinvents itself to focus on the stuff that makes this city so unique. Wieden + Kennedy has created this great out door ad for the NY Yankees. Nothing else to add than ‘Great’. (Via AdFreak)

Some ideas are plain wrong. Some ideas are just right. One day after adage has published an article on why digital agencies aren’t ready to lead (“we don’t understand brands and have no idea of exploitation”), Nike has just put this special live: Jordan M6 takes us on a journey to the design of a pair of Nike sneakers. And what you’ll witness is a great piece of digital brand campaigning. It directly contradicts adage’s claims: The special is right on spot (in a rather traditional way), it’s entertaining, engaging and does exactly what a good brand campaign is supposed to do: Make me believe that this brand will improve my life if I buy its products. It’s the perfect adaption of a classic image campaign into digital. (Thx to Igor for the link)

It’s the second time in 3 weeks that I write about Nike. After having launched the soccer version of it’s Nike+ concept they have now equipped their incredibely useful, inspiring NikeID store with an iPhone app. And this app belongs to the one of the better brand-sponsored pieces of iPhone software I have seen in a while. The app says ‘Inspiration is everywhere’. And that’s why it comes with cool new features such as this: How about taking a photo and receiving a sneaker recommendation defined by the image’s color code? Or taking an in-depth look on the sneakers of your choice, making them rotate all with your fingertips?
Check it out here, it’s free.

Nike. Introducing Football+.

Nike has just introduced a new sport feature called Nike Football+. At the first glance it looks like a retail orientated version of its award winning running program Nike+. Instead of Apple plus Nike (Nike+), personalization this time seems to go into another direction. What I understood is, you buy a pair of soccer boots, receive a code and then you can take part in some kind of ‘elite soccer program’ (whatever that means).
As usual the responsible agency is the communicative business transformers from AKQA. And well…Soccer+ doesn’t exactly look like the big community approach of Nike+ Running but it’s an interesting concept to intertwine products and exclusive digital content. Social CRM that is.
Nike SB. Today was a good day.

On days like these I feel like a granddaddy talking to his grandparents about the music back in the days. Nike SB has just published a very, very cool short clip for the launch of Paul Rodriguez’s third shoe Zoom P-Rod III. It features skater god Rodriguez, his shoes and…Ice Cube. To all kids younger than 28: Ice Cube was a gangster rapper (a musicial style which was pretty popular in the mid 1990s) back in the days. His 1993 hit ‘Today was a good day’ was cut to make it fit into prime time TV and his short appearance gives the skater story a nice twist.
Well done, Nike. You made me think of the good old days when we still sang songs about dough, bling and AK-47s. So romantic!
