Spread the Word. The Morning Line comes to Vienna.

A while ago a good friend of mine introduced me to Francesca von Habsburg, a very energetic art curator from Vienna. Francesca is the leading figure behind the world famous Thyssen-Bornemisza Art foundation (TB A 21) which is currently busily preparing one of their most ambitious art events ever: ‘The Morning Line’ in Vienna.

‘The Morning Line’ is both, a platform for contemporary music and composition and a public art structure. After last year’s event in Istanbul Francesca’s team is now building the new music pavillon right in the heart of Austria’s capital at Schwarzenbergplatz. With a height of 8 meter and a length of 20 meter the 20 ton aluminum structure will serve as a spatial pavillion for a fantastic electronic sound festival which starts on June 7 and ends on June 10. The actual structure will stay Vienna’s attraction until November 20.

Equipped with one of the best sound systems in the world The Morning Line will then serve as a sound pavillon for some of the most prolific contemporary electronic artists. Among them Alexej Borisov (Russia), Tommi Grönlund & Petteri Nisunen (Finland), Christian Fennesz (Austria), Carsten Nicolai (Germany) and many others.

Why am I recommending this event? Well first and foremost because I think it is going to be a fantastic live experience. And secondly because my concept & design partner Marta and I supported the guys from TB A 21 a bit to make it become the success that it is hopefully going to be. I guess the following film tells one of the smartest stories in a music videos that I have seen so far. It was created by the ‘world’s best neo-post-post-music hall anti-folk band’ Pig with the Face of a Boy and it stages the story of Russia from the perspective of a worker…well…who is responsible to spin the Tetris blocks that fall down from the sky. A great metaphor to describe life in Russia since the 1870s and a very nice, clever song. Well done guys. I hope you become really, really successful. Check out the band here…

Time for some new ideas kind of new ideas modifications of existing stuff to make it feel new. All of us got pretty annoyed lately by wallpaper-sized infographics staging statistics from ‘How many died in WWII’ to ‘How many people use twitter?’ So now after we get sick of these the evolution goes on – Band lyrics infographic shirts.

And as davaidavai loves social effects we want to stage this new trending topic before it is completely annoying…in about three days.

This one is still pretty fresh on threadless – currently it is only a submission. So if you ever want to buy it, go there and vote for it. You remember the song, don’t you?

There are only few brands in this world to consistently communicate and cooperate on such a high level as Absolut. Actually stuck in a low interest market with a completely generic product But it manages to bring the Arrr back into Marketing. Its success formula is simple: Intertwine local places and artists and stage the brand as enabler in the background. For its current sponsorship of Absolut’s Concert Series (in tandem with TBWA\Chiat\Day), the brand is cooperating with the notorious Jay-Z.

This week ABSOLUT Concert launched “NY-Z”, a 17-minute online film and lovechild of director Danny Clinch. Through a partnership with Madison Square Garden and Jay-Z, the brand follows the hiphop star in the days leading up to his 9/11 benefit concert. He reflects on his life in a candid, Sinatra-esque way that kind of reminds us of “Fade to Black,” the documentary film Jay-Z did in 2004 during his “The Black Album” tour. (via Culture-Buzz)

The mentioned video is the highlight feature of Absolut’s Facebook page. And yes, it is exclusive, cool and stages the brand more than well. Plus I really like the video personally since I had the pleasure to see Jay-Z at Madison Square Garden NYC last week as surprise guest for Alicia Key’s concert. A convincing presentation and well tuned interaction of story and platforms. Cool, Absolut NY-Z.

Cool. Band gets social to apply as Faith No More’s Support Act.

I love clever little ideas. The kind of ideas with a clear message, no agencies involved…just something to make you smile. This one is one of these ideas: For about 17 years now I am a fan of Faith No More. I almost cried when they made worldwide reunion tour earlier this year. As they have just announced their U.S. tour, L.A. based band called “Feast of Fetus” applied to play as their support act. How?

Simply by writing a song which is basically a plea with the Prog Rock Gods. Enter your twitter username and password and you send a twitter message together with the song to Faith No More’s band members Roddy Bottum and Mr Gould. Nice, funny and hopefully effective (via FNM Blog).

But only if you support Feast of Fetus.

Okay, my next Wii purchase will be this: Activision’s DJ Hero is going to be launched on Oct 27th. And I just found this extremely groovy trailer from Visual FX studio Framestore, London. Looks like serious fun and a cool presentation (via Creativity Online).

And now for something completely different: Advertising in the post-Soviet world (for the kids: the Soviet Union was…okay, forget that). The Prodigy just toured Belarus. Their gig at the Dinamo stadium in Minsk was advertised for, beyond other media, on eggs, which were sold in local stores. Ummm…I guess, you got to target your customers where they are, right?
