1974. The Day Mr Clarke Predicted the Internet.

The following video shows British Sci-fi author and futurist Arthur C. Clarke in a 1974 TV interview in which he pretty accurately describes the future. The future in this case is 2001 and Clarke thinks that regular people will then have personal computers that communicate and retrieve information like bank statements, theatre reservations and other things.

Sounds familiar?

Wikipedia. Thanks a lot for saving our asses over the last 10 years.

I think most of us agree that there are few websites which are as useful as Wikipedia. What else would we check out if we again had absolutely no clue what this…well…thingie…is. Apart from my wonderful nerd articles (in German) about the Geneva Roadmap with North Korea and Parties in the GDR I strongly suggest to read Wikipedia’s List of Lists of Lists. Plus I want to highlight the list of fictional racoons as well as the mindblowing article about the Rat King.

10 years after its start it is now celebrate this great (but oh so humble) concept. Washington-based digital agency JESS3 haslaunched a site called ‘The state of Wikipedia‘ that pulls together a lot of insights about the mother of all online Encyclopedias. And even though I promised myself not to publish info visuals anymore, I make an exception today.

That’s what Wikipedia is today and I find it pretty impressive…

Even without Jimmy Wales staring at us I want to highlight the importance of your contribution to Wikipedia. Wikipedia tries to be objective and free from advertising. And this can only be achieved through your contribution. Please donate a couple of dollars or Euros to this important online platform.

Germany. Our Social Web visualized.

Germany’s a little bit different. And the German Web 2.0 is even more different. We’re pretty much the Galapagos Islands of the Internet. Thanks to ethority we have now a German version of the famous Conversation Prism by Brian Solis. Fresh input for social media Powerpoint slides in good old Krautonia. :-)

Check it out in its full beauty on ethority’s blog.
