This fantastic looking little Kinect hack is almost too typical Japanese. At least if you consider that it seems to be completely normal (after a little surprise) for Japanese people to pose with your evil Manga-twin in the mirror…

Last night I attended Amsterdam’s Pechakucha Night at Roest. Most of you probably know the concept: Random people present their business concept/idea/art theory/whatever on 20 slides and they only have 20 seconds for each page before a heartless Powerpoint algorithm switches to the next one. The one person that definitely stood out for me was Olivier Otten – a young Dutch Creative/Developer who tries to play with very playful ways to interact with video under the name Selfcontrolfreak.
I don’t want to say much more. Just one thing. Gamification is not about badges and check-ins. Traditional playful, interactive metaphors have been around since the 1990s. But even two decades later I know of few platforms which are as much fun as this one.
Check out his 22 simple, playful video examples and start playing with Selfcontrolfreak.
Anrealage. An 8-Bit Showroom in Tokyo.

8-Bit? Yawn. We have seen pretty much everything in 8 Bit already. Except a store concept. Experimental Japanese designer Kunihiko Morinaga has built this showroom for the F/W collection of his label Anrealage in Tokyo. I think 8-bit is pretty close to getting buried very soon – but I think Mr Morinaga’s showroom is a fantastic final scream.

Some campaigns are different. Sony’s “Long Live Play” PS3 Campaign may be one of them. Playstation brand’s ad agency Deutsch Inc. really did a great job. But just check it out…

Ah nice! My colleague Oskar shared this link of one of his favorite campaigns right now: Sweden’s Safest Hands – a vert smart Mobile competition by the Swedish Post.
Actually it’s a type of campaign we have seen before. But the time-relevance and the densitiy of post offices makes this one extremely cool. Oh…and the app looks pretty nice as well. I can imagine this really works for the Swedish Post. Great idea.
Here is how it works:
The agency is akestam holst. And I don’t know what that means. Unfortunately.
How to position Ice Cream like a Boss: “You want nutrition, eat carrots”.

I just stumbled upon this perfect example of a great copy text. After years of working as a copywriter (in my previous life) I still have a lot of respect for the few who are able to write such an intelligent, bold, entertaining text. A no-bullshit text that positions this ice cream as the fat, unhealthy, very delicious product that it is. Well done! Congratulations Wisconsin for this ice cream and congratulations for the copywriter (who was probably the van owner).
Please zoom in if you are too old to read the text below.
Only Today. KLM tweets with a Living Alphabet.

KLM tries hard to become the social web’s favorite attacker brand. After staging a bunch of interesting campaign micro-ideas they launched something more complicated today. As Social Times reported a tweet from KLM earlier today said…
The result: live customer service replies that are shaped by a living alaphabet made up of 140 KLM employees. Yes it is live and it reacts to customer tweets but only today (and only as as reaction to a few selected tweets).
Live Reply tweets are being uploaded to KLM’s Youtube Channel and shared on Twitter. So far they’ve sent video tweets to about ten people, but they’ve still got a lot of hours left in the campaign. The example below is one of them…
The whole campaign is funny but completely useless. Anyway, it’s again a great very short-term promotional stunt to spread the word about KLMs social platforms and to position KLM as a social-media-savvy brand. In this regard: Well done, KLM. I am looking forward to the next useless stunt.

I have to admit I have rarely seen a better TV commercial for Duct Tape. But maybe that’s because Duck Products Tron Duct Take spot is the only one I know. Not enough Duct tape porn? Then go check out the user reviews to this Duct tape on amazon. No seriously. Do it.

Engineers just know how to ruin a good story.
The thing which has just been announced as a new technical standard by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) will
probably really be a revolution. But instead of giving this thing a really cool name they called it ‘WRAN’. Or to make it even more cryptic: 802.22.
‘WRAN’ stands for ‘Wireless Regional Area Network’. It basically takes the idea of your WLAN at home one step – or more – further and offers wireless internet access in an area up to 62miles/100km wide. We are talking about 12,000 Square Miles aka a lot. (via PCMasters)
As far as I understand this means we are getting one giant leap closer to Internet wherever we go. The potential implications of this new standard are absolutely breathtaking – just think about the challenge for Mobile carriers as well.
But anyway. It is good to see that there is absolutely no need to revise my stereotype of Engineers. You guys have possibly just invented one of the greatest technical solutions of our time and you call it “802.22″? Seriously IEEE: What the Fuck? This could have been the greatest product announcement since sliced bread. But you ruin it because you name it like a species of Alien Bacteria.
If you want to check out more of the IEEE’s fancy marketing concepts go check out their ‘Product page‘or the Wikipedia article.
It could have been good.
