Ideas. Hyper Island Kids Hack the Post Office Queue.

Many of you have probably heard about Hyper Island. The Swedish educational concept essentially promotes life long learning and has “produced” some of the most talented creative young talents I ever worked with. Hyper Island was always much more than a school. It is an attitude, a network, a way to see the world. And beyond  the original school in Karlskrona they now also offer Master Classes in Stockholm, London, Manchester and New York.

Hyper Kids like to play with things and experiment a lot. And most of the solutions they develop is a lot more than just aesthetically creative but a creative solution for a problem.

I just stumbled upon this little gem – a rather smart mobile way to hack the queue (link). It was developed by students from Hyper Island Manchestere and I thought you will like it…

Ray Ban’s Bright Light. For Once a Branded App That Makes Sense.

Oooooh brands and mobile apps. Yes, all of them want ‘something mobile’. No, just few of them should actually develop an app. The formula is simple: Nobody is interested in commercials and even fewer people are interested in branded apps. Except if they have a purpose.

Bright Light by Ray Ban may be such a rare case of a purposeful mobile application that even has a brand value. Check out the video below and tell me what you think. By the way: Ray Ban is my brand of the day anyway because of this fantastic print ad.

Awkward Badges. I want Foursquare to use these!

Tastefully Offensive has just posted a set of potential future Foursquare badges that might breathe in new life to the…kind of…stagnating platform. Also easier to get them.

Animated GIFs. The History of an Almost Art Form.

Okay, let’s just get one thing straight: Animated Gifs are the best thing since sliced bread. And if you don’t agree you are worse than Kony which is pretty bad.

Some people actually consider animated GIFs as an art form (I prefer to use things like GifShop to create stupid loops like that). And the following 6 minute documentary takes us back to a time when GIFs’ were early crude incarnations (American flags, “under construction” signs, flames) before taking us through to the more sophisticated cinemagraphs around the web today. (via Co.Design).

There is one strangely annoying thing about this film…possibly about Animated Gifs in general. To quote a Youtube comment: if feels like ‘Look at this fucking hipster: the movie. But let’s not get distracted by that. AnimatedGifs are great. And I am not a hipster.

Snake the Planet! An Urban Gaming Experiment.

This morning I got an email from my old friend Tim Büsing, Creative Director at Publicis Mojo in Sydney. Tim sent me a link to one of their latest, pretty explorative projects which is a real-world version of the classic Snake game. Yes kids – that’s what we played back in the days.

But Snake the Planet is quite different. It takes the classic Snake game and adopts it to the urban canvas. Each level is generated based on the architecture of the building it is projected onto. Windows, doors and signs become the boundaries and obstacles in the game as animated objects collide with and bounce off them using real-time physics simulation. The multiplayer game also has a Tron-like competitive element, where one player can intentionally block the others’ path to win the game.

How to Stage B2B. Scania – The Best Driver in the World.

I just stumbled upon this (a bit longish) video by Crispin Porter at the site of my friends from Creative Criminals. The film shows how exciting B2B can be if you let it. The task is simple: Swedish truck manufacturer Scania created a competition for truck drivers. The goal is to find the most skilled driver in the world. And this is how it looks like…

Early Adoption. OK Computer, 1997.

High Five FirstBank. Great Super Bowl Commercial.

Yes, that Creative Director had balls to present this concept to the client. Love it.

Whoa! What a Difference a #BlackoutSOPA Day Makes.

Just to make sure nobody ever ever ever asks the question again ‘What we can do against something like SOPA?’ or if it makes sense at all to protest. It does. Check out the results from Blackout SOPA Day last week on Jan 18.

The Next Big Thing. Strange Cooking Shows.

The world of Meme patterns is a rich one. My trusted helper to find out what’s so funny about advice dog or Tim Tebow is knowyourmeme.com. Not yet on the list is the apparent new trend stage really really niche topical cooking shows on Youtube. The following shows are highly recommened.

Vegan Black Metal Chef – Seriously funny. Brian Manowitz from Norway mixes Vegan food and Black Metal. What could go wrong?

Here is the link to more recipes and here is an interview with Brian himself.

Culinary Propaganda Chef – Szef Bartek is a new competitor of Vegan Black Metal Chef and obviously not yet quite decided if he wants to be rather Stalin or Batman. Check it out here.

Depression Cooking – Depression cooking is not quite what you think: Clara is 94 and she gives advice on how to cook like back during the Great Depression. The lovely elderly Lady has started quite a successful concept with Depression Cooking. She sells her own DVD and I am quite sure she sells here cook book somewhere on amazon.

Did I miss a strange cooking show on Youtube that must be on the list? Let me know.
