Archive for Media

Promoted Tweets. Finally explained in 140 Seconds.

Promoted Tweets are already live for about two months now. But I (as most of you) did not have the chance to take a deeper look at it by now. Check out this crisp little tour to our kind-of-favourite new social advertising vehicle…or whatever you make out of it. (via)

Hot Wheels. Now that’s a Media Award.

Good idea, Ogilvy Mexico. The big boy looking down to the thousands of cars roaming Mexico City’s streets is a little bit scary. Nevertheless it’s just a perfect Media buy for Hot Wheels. No doubt, this is one, not mainstream applicable Award Idea. But I have to admit it’s a nice one. (via Ibelieveinadv)

Absolut. Wallpapering Italy.

There are a few brands in this world that simply know how to stage themselves. Absolut doublessly is one of them. Check out ‘Absolut Wallpaper’, a wonderful revision of Modern Art by Ron English. This is currently on display in Rome and Milan. Thanks to PSFK and Wooster Collective for the link.

Print. 8 Futures which won’t save Murdoch, but sure look nice.

What’s the difference between Cracked.com and my blog? Nothing. Both of us aren’t able to publish a ‘Best of’ list with 10 entries. This is a list of the top 8 concept videos on how to stage print in an era of touch pads. I don’t really believe that tablet PCs will guarantee print’s future. But anyway most of the clips look nice – and are actually nicer than the final apps…if they ever are marketed.

Some of them will never see the light, but others already did. Check out my 8 favourite videos about a touchy future for print (which will never come).

1. Alice in Wonderland – iPad App, April 2010
Alice in Wonderland. You are no human being if you don’t love it. This cool new iPad app is NOT (repeat NOT) a kid’s book killer. But it demonstrates nicely how much fun you can have with a Penguin Classic nowadays. Come on, it’s just a book. It does not need to kill anybody.

2. Esquire – Augmented Reality Issue, November 2009

I don’t know. I think Augmented Reality as we use it today will shortly look as bizarre as a 1970s William Shattner using a computer interface with light bulbs and handles. I can’t help myself. But it seems quite weird to hold a piece of paper into a camera to see….Robert Downey Jr. performing stupid semi-amusing stunts.

Wired. Ready to go iPad.

Wired Magazine has just launched its video preview for its iPad application. And yes it looks yummy! In fact it is very logical for Wired to be among the first to take this step. I think the iPad will be a piece of hardware to make print publisher’s wet dreams come true and offer a digital platform to buy and consume print media.

As a commenter explained: This visual demo is very likely an Adobe Air demo…which does not work on the iPad yet.

Awesomeness. Your Move BMW.

Adaptation Marketing. Miracle Whip on the fast lane.

About a week ago I reviewed Forrester’s concept of Adaptive Marketing – a framework in which brands react fast on a given context using the means of microstrategies. This week Miracle Whip showed how this might look like. Background: On October 15 Comedy Central’s notorious Stephen Colbert made fun of Miracle Whip’s new ad campaign which stages urban, young hipsters doing fancy stuff with Miracle Whip (you know what I mean).

As a traditional brand you would not react on it. But now comes Adaptive Marketing into play: Miracle Whip’s declaration of war to Stephen Colbert ran as full-page ad in various American newspapers only a couple of weeks later, striking back at Colbert (see the full size ad)… “On Thursday, November 12, we will dominate the airspace on your show. With every commercial break, your viewers will be exposed to hardcore Miracle Whip attitude and revelry. You will see our legion of (as you call them) “mayo nay-sayers” snarfing sandwiches topped with our one-of-a-kind flavor in a very cool and totally hip way. They will be in your face and massively dope. It goes without saying, they WILL NOT TONE IT DOWN.”

And

“We’re on a mission.

We’re taking no prisoners. We’re raising Hell, Man.”

Online Advertising. Humans bow down to google.

O….kay, google, way to go. (All figures in 1,000$)

Crazy. Meet a Belarusian Media Mix.

welikeAnd now for something completely different: Advertising in the post-Soviet world (for the kids: the Soviet Union was…okay, forget that). The Prodigy just toured Belarus. Their gig at the Dinamo stadium in Minsk was advertised for, beyond other media, on eggs, which were sold in local stores. Ummm…I guess, you got to target your customers where they are, right? Print. Far from being dead.

Thanks to Creativecriminals for proving once again: Print is far from being dead. Watch this amazing concept video of Photographer Alexx Henry and his team show you how a magazine might look in the not-so-distant future with the October cover and spread for Outside Magazine.
