Many of my readers probably know Eike Koenig and his Berlin-based design studio HORT. And some of you may probably know Eike personally. Eike hasn’t just created one of the most innovative design studios in Europe, he has also created a professional creative playground for himself. An extremely interesting guy to have a conversation with and definitely one of the most fearless designers in Europe.
This is an interview of Latvian design blog Plikums with Eike who visited Riga’s Latvian Art Directors Club and talked a bit about his aspirations in work and design (via Better taste than sorry).

Just a quick link to a great project from my friends at cologne-based design studio demodern in collaboration with kempertrautmann, Hamburg. Thomas and Kristian have just launched a playful and fun little web special for Edding, the well known cult pen brand. On Edding’s ‘Wall of Fame’ special you end up on an interactive drawing board where you can either draw with an Edding pen or compete against other users over the ownership of a pen.
The whole experience is real time. Users actually draw live and interact live in an online experience which is pretty close to reality. As you can imagine (and as demodern commented) it has been quite a challenge from a technical as well as from a design standpoint. Good news is – they made it and Edding’s ‘Wall of Fame’ made quite a buzz lately. Good to see that demodern is doing more than alright. Well done!

It’s Movember. Time to grow the Tachetags.

Different cultures, different habits – while I worked for Neue Digitale / Razorfish we celebrated Mustache March to celebrate the beauty of male facial upper lip hair. Here in Amsterdam Movember is the time of year for real men to show how fuzzy the remote area between nose and mouth can get.
Unfortunately I am not a real man. This year my upper lip stays virgin. Anyway my colleagues here at Blast Radius Amsterdam have started a pretty cool initiative to celebrate the best in man – Tach(e)tags. The tach(e)tags page collects all status updates on twitter if you simply add the hashtashetag #tachetag to it. #Movember works as well. If you attach your mustache photo update to the tweet it will be displayed here and you will immediately enter the eternal halls of manliness.
Time to go. Check out tachtag.com and start sending us your tache-updates

Just a quick personal note and a recommendation for my fellow Amsterdamers.
As I am still a fresh expat in Amsterdam, I found this interesting book project that will finally see the light of day on Saturday, 10th of July, at the American Bookcenter, Amsterdam. They’re hosting a book launch/signing with Toby Morris from 2 to 5pm. Toby Morris is a New Zealand born illustrator who started his Amsterdam life at W&K. He has now created ‘Alledaags’, a collection of illustrations recording a year in the life of an ex-pat in Amsterdam (some of you probably know what he is talking about
In January 2009 Toby Morris began a daily sketchbook diary documenting his life and his observations of his adopted city. Alledaags collects 333 of the drawings and covers everything from canal boats, hair gel and the madness of Queen’s Day to Vondelpark picnics, Zwarte Piet and blunt Dutch service.
Looks like a very interesting little book project. Go there if you happen to be in Amsterdam on Saturday. Check out the book if
you’re not. Learn more on Toby’s blog.

Every once in a while I will introduce you to blogs that I simply like to read. Today’s feature is Creativecriminals.com from Belgium.
Creativecriminals.com was founded in March 2009 by the three Belgian students Rindert, Bert and Sander. The team collects and publishes some of the best ad campaign ideas I have seen in a while and updates on a daily basis. What I really like about the platform is the mixture of campaigns they come up with. From very small ideas with the certain touch of creative genius to big campaigns which stage a brand in the most appropriate way, find them all at Creativecriminals.com.
