Print. 8 Futures which won’t save Murdoch, but sure look nice.
April 21st, 2010 • Media
Some of them will never see the light, but others already did. Check out my 8 favourite videos about a touchy future for print (which will never come).
3. Living Magazine Cover – Outside Magazine, October 2009
This beautiful making-of stages the possible future of a magazine cover. Only 6 months later it looks somehow overdone…or outdated? I am not sure. It somehow is too much and too printy. I think we won’t need very expensive shootings in the future to understand the value of media.
4. Wired – iPad App, February 2010
Let’s call this PR. In Feb 2010 dozens of fake iPad/iSlate/iWhatever pics were popping up at Mashable and TechCrunch every day. Wired came up with this nice video of a Wired iPAD app based on Flash. It sure looks nice. Problem was, the iPad does not support Flash. Wired, any updates on that?
5. Mag+ – Bonnier R&D, January 2010
This conceptual video was a corporate collaborative research project initiated by Bonnier R&D into the experience of reading magazines on handheld digital devices. It is already 4 months old and illustrates one possible vision for digital magazines in the post-iPad era. I don’t know, I still like it.
6. iPad Cover – Sunset, March 2010
It’s just a prototype. It’s just a prototype. But it sure looks nice. Gotta turn Wham’s ‘Club Tropicana’ on.
7. Holograms -The future of magazines, May 2007
This video is not even 3 years old and it – also – already looks like a 1970s Star Trek episode. Technology-wise it is based on holograms and one thing is for sure – it won’t happen that way. You simply don’t need the magazine if you can use AR in 3D.
8. Sport Illustrated – iPad Demo 1.5, December 2009
There are iPad concept demos and then there is reality. Sometimes I prefer the demo – as in the case of Sport Illustrated. The actual app doesn’t look half as nice.
Update +++ Update +++ Update +++ Update +++ Update +++ Update +++ Update+++
Thank you Dirk for reminding me of the Viv Mag demo. In fact, this conceptual study of an all digital magazine on the iPad was the most stunning print vision I have seen so far. I wonder what will happen with this great prototype…is it in the app store already?
Did I forget any cool concept videos? Comment and send me the really good and working ones. Or tell me what you think of these 2010 versions of CD-ROMs. Do you like it? Or is it just a weird goldrush, forgotten by the world by 2012?
