Print. Far from being dead.

Thanks to Creativecriminals for proving once again: Print is far from being dead. Watch this amazing concept video of Photographer Alexx Henry and his team show you how a magazine might look in the not-so-distant future with the October cover and spread for Outside Magazine.

Nice case, but it has no bearing on print, has it?

In my opinion it´s an cool and impressive way of enhancing print magazines, but the technique stays a relative simple digital device. So “Print is far from being dead” would probably better be renamed into “Digital saves print to be far from dead”.

I basically agree. The technology is digital. But the feel is print. Print will have to evolve to survive. But there is a new understanding what print is all about. And here it is: The digital-print-hybrid.

That´s true, but if this hybrid really feels like a classic print product should be the pivotal question. And on the other hand: Can the digital feeling be strong enough to enrich this new medium? For me it would very strange to watch a video in a print-magazine but can´t listen to the appertaining–like in the promotional movie shown above–soundtrack. Will there be silence, will the magazine connect to my hifi-system at home?!? I´m very excited about the upcoming developments!
